Why HelloFresh Is The Best New Year’s Resolution
2019 was an insanely busy year for me. Work has been non-stop, and this year is going to be even crazier. While I’m really embracing everything life is throwing my way, my eating and sleeping habits have been thrown completely out of whack.
For the most part, my dinner over the past year has consisted of too many takeaways and ready meals on the way home from work, and it just isn’t sustainable. When I sat down and looked at how much money I’ve spent on lunches and dinners out, I was shocked!
So for my New Year’s resolution this year, I wanted to find an easy way to change my eating habits that I’d be sure to stick with. A colleague of mine recently started using HelloFresh, so I decided to have a look for myself.
HelloFresh is a meal kit delivery service that sends you pre-portioned ingredients and detailed recipe cards to cook home cooked meals. They have over 21 recipes to choose from every week from lots of cuisines that really take the hassle out of figuring out what will be for dinner that week.
Having just the right amount of every ingredient delivered to your door means less time spent in the supermarket, and more importantly, less time figuring out what we’ll eat (that being the proverbial question my husband and I fight over three times a week). We want to cook more meals at home, but it’s hard to find the time to plan, shop, and cook during the week.
One of our goals for the New Year is to eat more well-rounded meals, not just a plate of pasta or an Indian takeaway. We also want to eat at least 1 meat-free dinner a week. We are clueless when it comes to vegetarian recipe ideas, so we loved that HelloFresh always has a couple of veggie options to choose from every week.
You can choose 2, 3, or 4 recipes a week, so to start my husband and I selected 3. My favorite meal yet was the Fragrant Chicken Laksa. It took about 40 minutes to prepare, but prepping together gave my husband and me time to talk and unwind without being on our phones all evening. It was such a comforting dish- the creme fraiche made it creamy without being too heavy. Sooo perfect for a cold winter’s night.
HelloFresh takes the hassle out of cooking, and meals can be made in 30 minutes or less. They even have rapid recipes and meals that only take 15 minutes – perfect for when you’re starving after work!
We love curry, so the Creamy Aubergine Curry with Mushrooms, Lentils, and Potato was another favorite of ours. I was worried that it wouldn’t be filling because it’s a vegetarian recipe, but it was so satisfying.
We’ve loved all of the HelloFresh recipes, but the best part really is the quality time that I am able to spend time with my husband at the end of the day. Our lives are filled to the brim, and it’s easy to get caught up in the busy-ness and become disconnected from what really matters. HelloFresh allows us to eat well balanced meals during the week, but we still indulge on dinner at our local pub at the weekend.
I love that I spend less time at the supermarket and no longer have to schlep home with all the bags. And to be honest, we’ve been saving money, too. HelloFresh meals start at £5 a person, a lot less than our local take-away.
Overall, we’ve found ourselves in a new routine. We have dinner together most nights during the week, and we’re enjoying the new foods. Coming home to HelloFresh on our doorstep is quickly becoming the new norm.
