Let’s talk about St. Patrick’s Day for a hot sec: What was once a religiously held observance, has become a day of jubilance. Nowadays, the holiday is filled with bar-hopping extravaganzas, saucy leprechaun parades, and an opportunity to finally wear that one green outfit that’s been gathering dust at the back of your wardrobe these long ages now. 

Held every year on March 17th, you don’t have to be Irish to enjoy this exciting day. So long as you don’t drink tooooo much, and are sure to wear green, you’re in for a lucky celebration of cheer and (excessive) boos.

But as much as you enjoy St. Patrick’s Day, how much do you really know about it? TBH, I knew not a jot before reading Malachy McCourt’s History of Ireland. It’s full of interesting history and witty tales for adults and kids.

One of the most underrated of the five senses, smell evokes emotions, nostalgia, and ambiance. What’s St Paddy’s Day without festive dishes? I don’t know about you guys, but when I drink, the first thing I want to do is eat. Like, a lot. A whole kitchen of food wouldn’t be enough for me after one boozy shamrock shake. 

Last year, after bar hopping with friends for St Patrick’s Day, I spent a good hour and a half waiting for my Uber Eats order to show up… only for my order to be canceled! Oh no! The service was too busy with a bunch of boozy New Yorkers bulk-ordering Shake Shack. If only I had The Complete Irish Pub Cookbook back then. I’d have had a boatload of yummy Irish dishes prepped ahead of time. 

This cookbook has a number of classic Irish meals that have been enjoyed for centuries. It’s a fantastic way to immerse yourself in the culture while chowing down on mouth-watering Corned Beef, Colcannon, Irish Stew, and Irish Soda Bread.

St. Patrick’s Day Makeup

I love getting all dressed up for St. Patrick’s Day. Green isn’t my usual go-to color, but March 17th is the perfect excuse to experiment with a shade that’s super festive.
