Wow, Y’all. It’s crazy to think how ridiculous St. Paddy’s Day tchotchkes have gotten over the years. You’d think a holiday based around such a dark tale of resilience and triumph over an oppressor would maintain that tone, but, alas… other cultures swept in and co-opted it with glittery green hokeyness galore — Hello America! Regardless, here we are — I’m side-eyeing you, St. Patrick’s Day toilet paper.
And while many of these tchotchkes are obnoxious and kitschy AF (Shamrock-Shaped sunglasses, anyone?) I’ve managed to dig up a few must-have St Paddy’s Day essentials that are honestly… awesome. Kind of? And not in like, an ironic way — but these products will genuinely add style and joy to your holiday. So, if you want to make the most of this fun celebration, be sure to pull out your shopping carts, and let’s get right to it!
St. Patrick’s Day Facts & Myths Book
Let’s talk about St. Patrick’s Day for a hot sec: What was once a religiously held observance, has become a day of jubilance. Nowadays, the holiday is filled with bar-hopping extravaganzas, saucy leprechaun parades, and an opportunity to finally wear that one green outfit that’s been gathering dust at the back of your wardrobe these long ages now.
Held every year on March 17th, you don’t have to be Irish to enjoy this exciting day. So long as you don’t drink tooooo much, and are sure to wear green, you’re in for a lucky celebration of cheer and (excessive) boos.
But as much as you enjoy St. Patrick’s Day, how much do you really know about it? TBH, I knew not a jot before reading Malachy McCourt’s History of Ireland. It’s full of interesting history and witty tales for adults and kids.
St Patrick’s Day Scented Candle
One of the most underrated of the five senses, smell evokes emotions, nostalgia, and ambiance. I adore this St. Patrick’s Day Candle from Amazon Prime because the aroma screams Irish Pride without being overbearing. It doesn’t have the scent of a clover field, but instead offers a unique blend of fresh grape, raspberry, and jasmine notes. It brings the sense of a lively Spring, making it the perfect candle to enjoy all season, not just for the holiday. So refreshing!
St Patrick’s Day Cookbook
What’s St Paddy’s Day without festive dishes? I don’t know about you guys, but when I drink, the first thing I want to do is eat. Like, a lot. A whole kitchen of food wouldn’t be enough for me after one boozy shamrock shake.
Last year, after bar hopping with friends for St Patrick’s Day, I spent a good hour and a half waiting for my Uber Eats order to show up… only for my order to be canceled! Oh no! The service was too busy with a bunch of boozy New Yorkers bulk-ordering Shake Shack. If only I had The Complete Irish Pub Cookbook back then. I’d have had a boatload of yummy Irish dishes prepped ahead of time.
This cookbook has a number of classic Irish meals that have been enjoyed for centuries. It’s a fantastic way to immerse yourself in the culture while chowing down on mouth-watering Corned Beef, Colcannon, Irish Stew, and Irish Soda Bread.
St. Patrick’s Day Makeup
I love getting all dressed up for St. Patrick’s Day. Green isn’t my usual go-to color, but March 17th is the perfect excuse to experiment with a shade that’s super festive. If you’re like me and love going all out for the holidays, you can’t go wrong with this gorgeous green Gemstone palette. You can even do your friends’ makeup with this array of pretty greens before the parade.
Which shade do you like best? I’m personally in love with the sparkly green, but I’m just extra like that.
Irish Crop Sweatshirt
You guys. I took the DNA test a few years back, only to discover I’m like 3% Irish! Does this mean I get to wear this “Irish” shirt from Amazon Prime? (Yeah, probably not.) But this graphic crop sweatshirt is so bloody cute that I might snag it for my Irish bestie. It simply can’t go to waste — it’s too adorable!
But if you’re not Irish and still want to wear something chic and festive for St. Paddy’s, don’t sweat it. There are some equally fabulous crop sweatshirts in this collection, including this terrific shamrock graphic tee. So, if you don’t have anything green to rock this year, hurry up and nab an oh-so-chic crop sweatshirt from Amazon.
St. Patrick’s Day Body Glitter
How often do you have an excuse to wear green body glitter? Not often. Days spent in body glitter are days well spent if you ask me. Especially when it’s green. Why not go full-out this year? Just wear it for yourself and pass it along to friends who need an extra hint of green in their final look.
St. Paddy’s Day Knee-High Socks
I’m so obsessed with these St. Patrick’s Day-themed knee-highs, that I might just wear them all year round. Now, I’m not what you’d call a superstitious person by any means. But the one thing that’s a little mythical about me is my fervent belief in “lucky socks.” AKA a pair of socks that, whenever you wear them, give you oodles of luck.
What better way to bring you luck than with the lucky socks themselves? Available in fun designs like shamrocks, striped green patterns, or a classic dark green shade, these socks will have you kicking up your heels and dancing the night away.
Ready to celebrate full out? With the help of these festive goodies, you’ll be sure to have the hottest St. Paddy’s Day yet!
