One time, my roommate and I got in a genuine fight over the fact that I failed to own a single pair of skinny jeans. “How could you not own a pair of skinny jeans?” she hurled at me, utterly flabbergasted by my fashion faux pas. “That’s just, like, against the fashion law!”

Guilty as charged, I guess. Because the truth is, I never liked wearing skinny jeans. They’re extremely uncomfortable, itchy, and repressive. And I wasn’t a fan of the way they looked on me. I have curvy thighs, so they emphasize this area in a way that’s unflattering. Plus, my fashion sense is a bit zany and very feminine, so I generally prefer skirts and dresses.

“That’s it,” my roommate rolled her eyes — practically shoving me out of our apartment. “I can’t just be a bystander here — I have to take you shopping.” I sighed in annoyance, but begrudgingly allowed her to drag me into several clothing stores throughout the city.

We spent hours scouring the streets of Brooklyn searching for the perfect pair of skinny jeans to complete my wardrobe. And despite my initial reluctance, I actually found a pair that I fell madly in love with. Me and this pair of jeans have been together for two years now, and I don’t see us breaking up anytime soon. These skinny jeans are an essential in my capsule wardrobe. Every few months, I send my old roommate a “thank you” text for forcing me to buy them — along with a mirror selfie of my outfit that includes the famous jeans.

The truth is, my roommate was 100% right. No matter who you are — or what your qualms might be when it comes to the ever-so-divisive skinny jeans — everyone should own at least one pair. And hey, before you know it, it’s your favorite clothing item in your closet.

Joining the ranks of skinny jeans aficionados, celebrities like Alix Earle and Sienna Miller are breathing new life into skinny jeans, proving that still have a place in the fashion-forward closets.

Skinny Jeans are versatile, flirty, gamine, and classic. But finding the right pair is a journey in itself. If you’re debating which SJs are right for you, you’ve come to the right place. Let’s grab our shopping carts and pop the best pair of skinny jeans — just right for you and your body type — in your cart.

Best Skinny Jeans for Tall, Slender Ladies

True Religion Low Rise Jeans

It’s no secret that True Religion is the top-tier brand for blue jeans. But is TR right for you? Let’s investigate.

These jeans are known for their high price, so if you prefer investing in one high-quality pair over several lower-quality ones, this brand might be worth considering. True Religion focuses on the most comfortable, stretchy material, regardless of how skinny and tight your jeans are.

The renowned brand is currently selling these adorable low rise jeans at 50% off the original price… score! When it comes to the ever-so-controversial low rise jeans, this look can only be pulled off by a select few. While several diverse body types can wear low-rise skinny jeans and look great, this fashion trend tends to look best on ladies who are tall and slender. Since these jeans expose the hips and torso, it looks extremely flattering on women with elongated figures. These will add to your willowy and statuesque grace in a way few other jeans can.

Best Skinny Jeans for Short, Petite Ladies

Old Navy High-Waisted Super-Skinny Jeans

Where my short girlies at? As someone who barely reaches five feet in height, this is my area of expertise. *Rolls up sleeves.*

When you’re as petite as I am, it’s hard to shop for clothing, period. Yet things get especially difficult when you’re trying to find the right pair of pants that fits your width, and isn’t too elongated. (It’s a life-long struggle that my non-vertically challenged friends will never understand.)

With all these factors at play, it takes a very specific type of skinny jean to flatter the petite woman to perfection. And from my experience, the best skinny jeans for petites are high-waisted. This look is super flattering because it adds a bit of length while showing off your natural curves. Plus, there’s something vintage about the high-waisted look that makes me feel like I’m Jackie Burkhart on That ‘70s Show. (Jackie’s a fellow short Queen.)

I’m obsessed with this pair of high-waisted rockstar skinny jeans from Old Navy. It has all the quality and style of the brands previously listed, but they won’t break the bank. Plus, I love it that Old Navy has an excellent Petite selection, so you know the brand’s taking your body type into consideration by the brand — and about time!

Best Skinny Jeans for Curvy Women

Good American – Good Legs Skinny Jeans

You know what I absolutely adore about Khloe Kardashian’s blue jeans brand, Good American? This apparel emphasizes women’s curves, rather than hiding them. In the early 2000s, when skinny jeans were all the rage, toxic diet culture was raging, and everyone was buying clothes that hide their body’s natural shape.

But now that the Kardashians have taken over the world, the brand promises jeans that not only flatter curvier women — and are specifically designed with them in mind — but also show off the curves. Good Legs Skinny Jeans offers a lovely, feminine appearance that you’ll love so much, you’ll want to superglue the fabric to your frame. (Yes, they’re that flattering!)

Best Skinny Jeans for Women with Stomach Pooch

Buffalo Jeans’ High Rise Skinny Skylar Jeans in Night Rain Blue

Want to know a secret? It’s perfectly all right for women’s stomachs to pooch a little. This is nothing to be ashamed of. There are tons of flattering ways to dress up your tummy.

My favorite way to do this is by opting for a dark pair of jeans rather than anything too bright. So, consider a flirty, high-rise fit as opposed to low-rise.

I go for this pair of High Rise Skinny Skylar Jeans in Night Rain Blue. The color is beautiful, and so is the fit. Voilà! You look like a million bucks, babe.

Best Jeans for Pear-Shaped Bodies

High Skinny in Black Magic by Abrand Jeans

Due to their unique proportions, some women feel like their body type isn’t classifiable as curvy, slim, tall, or petite. While certain areas of their figure are rather slender and angular, others are more rounded. Such is the case with the pear-shaped body, which tends to signify a small bust, narrow shoulders, slender waist, and rounding of the thighs, butt, and hips.

High-rise skinny jeans are super flattering with this body shape, as are darker colors. With this in mind, I’ve fallen in love with the High Skinny in Black Magic Jeans by Abrand Jeans to suit my pear-shaped figure. Too cute to be true!

Best Jeans for Apple-Shaped Women

Women’s High Rise Ever Fit Flair Jean by Lee

Got an apple-shaped figure? This body type looks abso gorge in high-waisted jeans with a nice flair at the bottom. They draw attention to the legs and are quite attractive in a darker shade. That’s why I adore this slim-fitted High Rise Ever Fit Flair Jean by Lee in Black Ivory. Honestly, jeans don’t get much better than this.
